Project R.E.D. (Rural Education Day) May 2, 2012

Project R.E.D. was tons of fun with about 1000 third graders from area schools. Master Gardeners of Western Wayne County presented Vermicomposting. The kids loved the red wiggler worms! Thank you to Paul, Char, Erin and Sharon for doing the presentations. Thanks to Paul and Anita for housing the worms and Char for the beautiful presentation boards. Thanks to Char also for making all of the arrangements for us to present. Many other Master Gardeners came out to help lead the children from station to station. It is a great hands-on experience for the kids!
Wondering when the soil is warm enough to plant grass seed, put down fertilizer, crab grass preventive, etc.? Check out this link to the MSU's Michigan Turfgrass
Foundation's GDD (Growing Degree Day) Tracker. It uses
your zip code to pinpoint turf pest management tracking and alerts for
you. Link to GDD Tracker
