Volunteering - Giving Back to the Community
Our members volunteer in a multitude of things such as the creation and maintaining of various community gardens such as the Goodwill Garden and the DTE Gardens throughout the Metro Detroit area. Each November members participate in the Make a Senior Smile Day to do fall cleanup in the yards of qualifying Seniors who are not able to do so for themselves. Each year Wayne County Master Gardeners contribute over 500,000 volunteer hours to enhance the gardens and lives of those who live in our communities. Another way MGWWC gives back to the community is through the awarding of small grants and scholarships. To raise funding members volunteer in various projects and programs such as conducting affordable garden related classes. In 2016 MGWWC started branching out into other fundraising events, including the Community Day at the Wayne County Community College District location in Belleville and a plant sale, partnering with a local grower.
